Managing your QR codes

This page walks you through the administration and configuration of your QR codes, from creation to performance tracking.

What is the difference between a standard QR code and a GS1 QR code?

Section titled “What is the difference between a standard QR code and a GS1 QR code?”

A standard QR code does not include the 13-digit GTIN required for the code to be recognized at checkout. It is a QR code that points to a marketing URL accessible through your phone camera.

A GS1 QR code includes the GTIN and can be scanned at checkout.

QRanberi lets you create dynamic QR codes, meaning they include a redirect URL. This allows you to choose your QR code’s destination and change it whenever you want.

By contrast, a static QR code includes a final destination URL that cannot be changed. That is not the solution offered by QRanberi.

I already use QR codes but I don’t know whether they are static or dynamic. How can I check?

Section titled “I already use QR codes but I don’t know whether they are static or dynamic. How can I check?”

Note: all QR codes generated through QRanberi are dynamic.

If your QR code was generated by another solution and you are unsure what type it is, scan it and check whether the URL shown when you bring your camera close switches to another URL, which is the final destination.

If the URL displayed during the scan is identical to the final destination URL, it is probably a static QR code.

What is the difference between a dynamic QR code and a serialized QR code with dynamic data?

Section titled “What is the difference between a dynamic QR code and a serialized QR code with dynamic data?”

Dynamic QR code

-> A single code containing a redirect URL that then points to a destination URL that can be changed.

-> Once generated, the QR code is printed permanently on its medium, for example packaging.

-> The final destination can be changed at any time.

-> Scan statistics are available, including number of scans, location, and device.

Serialized QR code with dynamic data

-> Each code is unique, generated from a dataset such as batch, expiry date, or product information.

-> Typically, one unique QR code is generated for a specific batch and printed directly on that batch’s packaging or label during production.

-> This QR code can include a redirect URL so that the destination can still be changed at any time. This makes it possible to update the destination for each code individually while keeping associated data attached to it.

When associated with a QR code, a redirect link is an intermediate URL encoded in the QR code. That URL points to a management interface where you can change the final scan destination at any time. This is what makes the QR code dynamic: its appearance stays the same, but its destination can change without needing to reprint it.

Yes. At any time, you can edit the QR code and change its destination either to a QRanberi micro-website of your choice or to an external URL.

Yes. Check that the "Active" box is enabled. If it is not, you can activate it by editing the QR code. Then test it: it should point to the destination URL you selected.

Is the QR code shown when publishing in the builder the same as the QR code connected to my micro-website?

Section titled “Is the QR code shown when publishing in the builder the same as the QR code connected to my micro-website?”

No. The QR code shown during publishing is temporary and is only used to preview your micro-website while you are building it. To permanently connect a QR code to your micro-website, you need to generate a specific QR code from the QR code management area.

With QRanberi, you can generate two main types of QR codes:

  • Marketing QR codes: Ideal for promotional campaigns, posters, and social media use.
  • GS1-format QR codes: Designed for product packaging, they include standardized information while keeping a marketing function through their URL.

In addition, all QR codes generated through QRanberi are dynamic, meaning they include a redirect link that you can change at any time, and you can customize them with your own design.

Should I create a marketing QR code or a GS1 QR code?

Section titled “Should I create a marketing QR code or a GS1 QR code?”

This question mainly matters if you plan to place a QR code directly on your product packaging, especially in preparation for the transition to GS1 QR codes by 2027. GS1 also recommends starting that transition now.

For all other uses such as posters or social media, a standard marketing QR code is perfectly suitable.

You can absolutely use a marketing QR code on your products before switching to the GS1 format in order to boost consumer engagement. If you choose to use a marketing QR code in addition to a GS1 QR code, it is recommended to place it on a different side of the packaging.

For more information about the GS1 standard, you can consult the GS1 enhanced QR code implementation guide.

Section titled “Can I create the QR code before creating the related micro-website?”

Yes, absolutely, and this is even common practice, especially when you need to anticipate packaging print timelines. When creating your QR code, select "URL" as the destination and enter a temporary URL instead, such as your brand homepage or a pre-launch page. Once your QRanberi micro-website is ready, you can simply edit the QR code, switch the destination to "Micro-website", and select your creation.

Section titled “Can I point a QR code to an external link, for example my website?”

Yes, absolutely. Thanks to QRanberi’s redirect link feature, you are free to choose the final destination of your QR code. When creating or editing your QR code, simply select "Destination: URL" in the editor and paste the link to your website or any other external page.

Can I create a QR code with a custom design?

Section titled “Can I create a QR code with a custom design?”

Yes. QRanberi offers many customization options directly in the QR code editor. You can change the color, the shape, and even add your logo or an image in the center of the QR code. To ensure optimal readability by smartphones and scanning tools, make sure you follow our print recommendations in the “Quality and printing” section.

Can I use the same QR code more than once?

Section titled “Can I use the same QR code more than once?”

We recommend using a different QR code for each product or specific use case. This lets you track and analyze performance accurately for each context.

  • For a GS1 QR code: It must be strictly linked to the GTIN of a single product.
  • For a marketing QR code: Although it can technically be reused across different materials over time, the analytics will be merged together, making it harder to distinguish performance by medium.

Note that the same QRanberi micro-website can absolutely be used as the destination for several different QR codes.

Should I create a different QR code for each product?

Section titled “Should I create a different QR code for each product?”
  • For a GS1 QR code: Yes, it is essential to create a distinct GS1 QR code for each product or SKU with its own GTIN.
  • For a marketing QR code: It is strongly recommended to create a unique QR code per product or per distinct use case. This gives you more precise and more relevant performance data for each product reference or campaign.

Can I point several QR codes to the same micro-website?

Section titled “Can I point several QR codes to the same micro-website?”

Yes, absolutely. When choosing the destination in the QR code editor, simply select the same QRanberi micro-website for several of them. If your needs change later, you can update the destination of those QR codes at any time.

I already created QR codes on another platform. Can I point them to micro-websites created with QRanberi?

Section titled “I already created QR codes on another platform. Can I point them to micro-websites created with QRanberi?”

Yes, provided that your existing QR codes are dynamic and include a redirect link feature. To do this, simply copy your QRanberi micro-website URL, available in the "Micro-websites" area next to the preview image of your creation, then paste that link into the redirect field of your current QR code platform.

Yes. QRanberi lets you export your QR codes in SVG or PNG format, which are suitable for high-quality printing.

For GS1 QR codes, make sure you follow GS1 size and implementation recommendations without distorting, stretching, or shrinking the image:

Minimum size: 13.07 mm

Maximum size: 32.7 mm

(including the quiet zone)

Can a QR code with a custom design be printed on packaging?

Section titled “Can a QR code with a custom design be printed on packaging?”

To make sure a QR code can be read properly on packaging by smartphone cameras and various scanning systems:

  • you need to leave a clear quiet zone around the QR code. The exact size depends on the QR code dimensions, but you need to make sure it is not visually crowded by nearby shapes. The best approach is to test it on the PDF using your own phone.
  • the contrast between the QR code color and the background color must be strong enough, especially if you choose a custom color palette.

For a GS1 QR code, make sure your QR code is compliant: https://www.gs1.fr/foire-aux-questions?question=quelle-est-la-dimension-minimale-du-qr-code-augmente-gs1-sur-mon-produit.

When a consumer scans your QR code, the short link https://ma-marque.qrtrust.link appears in the yellow banner. After clicking, they are redirected to your micro-website URL in the form https://ma-marque.qranberi.site.

Yes. In the "Statistics" area, you will find visitor data, visit duration, bounce rate, and the geographic origin of scans on your domain. You can also see who is on your micro-website live and filter the data by period. See the “Statistics” section.

How can I make sure my QR code is working?

Section titled “How can I make sure my QR code is working?”

In the "QR codes" area, on the row corresponding to the QR code you want to test, check that "Active" is enabled.

You can also scan your QR code with your phone camera to verify that it works properly and points to the correct destination URL.

If something is wrong, for example a broken link, an alert is sent to you by email thanks to our automatic daily verification system.

Section titled “Why am I receiving a broken link notification from QRanberi?”

QRanberi runs an automatic daily check on link stability across all its domains to ensure the best possible user experience.

When a link is broken or unfinished, an alert is immediately sent by email to the owner of the affected domain.

In most cases, this notification means that the micro-website your QR code points to was not properly published or was changed without being republished.

To solve the issue, simply open the relevant micro-website in the editor and click "Publish." Your QR code will then work again immediately.

Yes. Your QR code always remains available in your QRanberi interface.

You can delete it using the small icon at the end of the row in the QR code management area.

What happens if I delete my QR code after printing it?

Section titled “What happens if I delete my QR code after printing it?”

Deleting a QR code breaks the link between that QR code and its destination URL.

If you scan a QR code exported as SVG or PNG and then deleted, you will be taken to a 404 page.

So before deleting a QR code, make sure it is no longer in use anywhere.

How can I organize and manage my QR codes over the long term?

Section titled “How can I organize and manage my QR codes over the long term?”

With your QRanberi subscription, you keep access to all your QR codes in your dedicated space for the entire duration of your subscription.

To optimize the management of your QR code library and easily find the ones you need, use our custom tag system. When creating or editing a QR code, simply add relevant tags such as "Summer Promotion 2025", "Secondary Packaging", or "Premium Range" in the QR code editor. These tags will then help you filter and organize all your digital assets efficiently.
